Student Equity and Achievement Committee
Welcome to the Student Equity and Achievement Committee (SEA)
Committee Purpose: The Student Equity and Achievement Committee is a participatory governance committee
charged with recommending, coordinating, supporting, and funding the strategies that
enhance student equity and student academic achievement institutionally at Santa Barbara
City College. The committee produces and champions the Student Equity Plan.
Committment and Responsibilities: The committee makes recommendations to the College Planning Council for the expenditures of SEA funds in support of the Student Equity Plan. The intent of the Student Equity Plan is to:
- align institutional goals and priorities for enhancing student equity and achievement on campus;
- improve implementation of goals and objectives related to student equity and achievement;
- increase communication and coordination to leverage resources to have a greater impact on student equity and achievement;
- increase collaborative efforts to bring intentional alignment between the Student Equity Plan and diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging and accessibility (DEIBA);
- coordinate the data management for outcomes assessment and evaluation of the college's efforts to achieve student equity and achievement;
- and provide seamless delivery of services that support student equity and achievement.
The committee ensures designated equity funds are used to support outcomes with measurable or clearly defined equity goals. The committee monitors and reports progress on the Student Equity Plan and the SEA allocations.

2nd and 4th Monday of each month/1:00 to 2:30 pm/conference room A218C
The 2024-25 meetings will be held from September 9, 2024 through May 12, 2025

Charge from the CO:
The Student Equity and Achievement (SEA) Program was established through the enactment of California Education Code 78222. It is the intent of the Legislature that the Student Equity and Achievement Program support the California Community Colleges in implementing activities and practices that advance the systemwide goal to boost achievement for all students with an emphasis on eliminating the achievement gaps for students from traditionally underrepresented groups through the following:
- Maintain an Equity Plan to ensure equal educational opportunities and to promote student success for all students, and traditionally underrepresented groups in particular;
- Provide services needed to assist a student in making informed decisions about their educational goal and course of study and in developing an education plan;
- Implement activities and practices pursuant to the California Community College Guided Pathways Grant Program
